PISCO PROJECT'S FIRST STEP SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED. A STEP TOWARD CRYOGENIC INNOVATION FOR SPACE COMPONENTS
In July 2019, Avio kicked off the PISCO - PIedmont Space COmponents project with the goal of contributing to cryogenic innovation through the development and implementation of various technical and scientific solutions. Specifically: advanced autonomous sensors in terms of power supply, data transmission and structural dimensions; new components for propulsion control; digitization of supply chain logistics for production and optimization of management of various components. The Project, a collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin and partly funded by the Piedmont Region, involved SMLAB - Smart Manufacturing Lab, an association for the cultural growth of additive manufacturing technologies. The first phase of the project, while dealing with the criticality of the pandemic, was successfully concluded in June 2023 by achieving all the set goals. The project is part of an important innovation process that has contributed to increasing employment levels and expanding economic activity in the Turin area in a sector, such as aerospace, of particular interest to the area.
